World Record for the Largest Online Poker Tournament will be set by Full Tilt Poker

Posted under internet poker & online poker & poker tournament

Full Tilt Poker will attempt to stamp its name on the Guinness Records and to do so; the site has announced that it will try to set a new record for the Largest Online Poker Tournament. Full Tilt’s Record Breaker tournament was unveiled as the finale to FIVE, a week of events and promotions created exclusively to celebrate the site’s 5th anniversary. The tournament will take place on July 19th at 15:05ET, players can buy in for this event for only $5 or 1000 Full Tilt Points and compete for a share of a $250,000 guaranteed with $250,000 added prize pool. Players can also get entries to this event by playing the online satellites available on the site and starting for as little as 30 cents or 50 Full Tilt Points.

Team Full Tilt pros and WSOP bracelet winners Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson and Phil Ivey have already confirmed they will take part in the event, offering players the chance to sit down at this historic tournament and play with some of the best high stakes and tournament pros in the world.

“By extending the limits of what is possible in online poker tournaments, Full Tilt Poker will allow players to compete for a big payout without the big buy-in,” said Team Full Tilt member Howard Lederer.

Putting together a poker tournament of this magnitude would be nearly impossible for any brick and mortar casino or poker room. The current record for the largest “live” poker tournament was set at the 2006 WSOP Main Event with 8,772 players. To break the current Guinness Record set by PokeStars.com in December, 2008, Full Tilt Poker will need to attract over 35.000 players. If successful, this tournament will establish Full Tilt Poker as World Record holder and cement its reputation as a world leader in online poker industry.

Posted under Poker & online poker & poker celebrities & poker rooms & poker tournament & professional poker

FullTiltPoker.com has just launched a brand new informative site covering all the action of the “Durrrr Challenge”, an incredible online heads up tournament involving some of the finest big money poker players taking on the Heads Up Specialist Tom “durrrr” Dwan.

The new website section gives poker players and followers the chance to stay on top of this historical online poker challenge and check out timely updates. With this innovative “durrrr heads up Challenge” portal fans can track all the details and look at each poker hand played during this poker challenge, and look at lots of stats, including how many hands were played, time of session, cash won, average won during each hand and lots more.

Close to six months ago, the 23 year old online poker phenomenon dealt out a heads-up poker challenge for any poker player with the cash, time and talent to accept it. Any player entering the poker challenge has to bet $500,000 against durrrr’s $1.5 million. Dwan’s challenge states that at least 50,000 hands need to be played simultaneously at 4 or more poker tables of no-limit Hold’em or pot-limit Omaha. At the end of the poker challenge, the poker player who has more cash will secure the pool. Basically if you enter the Full Tilt Challenge and win a dollar after the 50,000 hands, then you will take home durrrr’s $1.5 Million, but if he succeeds by a dollar then he will take your $500,000.

So far, several poker players have accepted to play the “durrrr challenge”, including WSOP Champ Phil Ivey and David Benyamine, but, only Patrick Antonius has accepted the challenge. Thus far, both poker players have completed in a total of 20,647 poker hands out of 50,000, with Tom durrrr Dwan ahead $726,546 total.

Legalization of Online Poker may be on the Horizon

Posted under Poker & online poker & poker laws

Shortly after the beginning of last week’s charity celebrity poker game to aid the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Ben Affleck goes all-in with a flop of Ace-Nine-King and two diamonds. He winces when two of his opponents call the bet. He yells “Re-buy”, but the turn is a seven of hearts. Affleck is disappointed when a jack of diamonds is dealt on the river. He took the hand seriously even though there was no real cash at stake. This is just the kind of thing that Affleck and several other poker enthusiasts are petitioning for.

Over $100,000 was raised for the paralyzed victims, but this was not the only purpose of the poker tournament held in Coors Field. Members of the Poker Players Alliance are working very hard to legalize online poker in the United States. As part of their agenda, they are pushing to repeal the 2006 legislation Congress passed which bans U.S. Banks and credit card companies from processing transactions related to online gaming websites.

John Pappas, executive director of the Poker Players Alliance, is optimistic about the direction that the new congress will lead this decision. Pappas says that the alliance is pushing for a licensed industry, just for internet poker, and not for all online gaming. Pappas is interested in having a safe, regulated industry that all Americans can enjoy. The group is fighting for the rights of people and the privacy they deserve in their own home.

“There are misconceptions about poker and about online poker,” poker pro Andy Bloch said in between hands during the charity poker event. “Some people think that online poker is gambling like a slot machine, and it’s not.”

The era of the poker dealer is coming to an end

Posted under Poker & online poker & poker dealer

Can you imagine walking into a popular Las Vegas, Nevada casino and seeing no poker dealers, chips, or cards? Well if this seems hard to believe, you may be in for a big surprise. The Vegas based casino Excalibur is now testing with this new ground-breaking idea of automating everything from the dealers, to the actual poker tables. Owners from the casino are going to equip the areas with 12 digital machines for a six-month trial period.
The North-Carolina based industry PokerTek is in charge of the electronic machines, which are revolutionizing the way poker will be played in Sin City. The business already has 230 machines around the world, with the biggest located in Casino du Montreal (a total of 25 machines were installed in this Canadian casino hotel).
So what are the negatives of this makeover? For starters, about 40 Excalibur poker dealers will be searching for new places to work. Some of these dealers have been working at the casino hotel since its opening in 1990. Todd DeRemer, Excalibur’s Vice President of Casino Operations, says that the poker dealers will be offered other dealer careers in the same casino.
According to DeRemer, the alteration is being made to give rookie players a chance to play this popular game without feeling intimidated. He had already played these new machines before deciding upon the renovation. “It’s not intimidating”, he says, “We think that aspect will bring back the business”.
The better machines will allow the players to play Texas hold’em, seven card stud and Omaha. 40-inch flat screen televisions, which are located in the core of the table, will illustrate each table’s community cards, gambler’s stakes and the pot.
